Mission Statement

Following the legacy of almost 70 years in the printing industry our company Roy E. Mayne & Son has the knowledge and a team of print professionals that produce nothing less than high quality work.

From the concept to delivery, whether it’s spot colour stationery, a full colour magazine or retail displays.
We know that a well designed and accurately produced printed piece communicates perfectly to consumers. It creates a memorable image, greater awareness and in turn greater sales.

History

Roy Edmonds Mayne, born in 1904 was the sole founder of the company we proudly own today.

At the young age of 28 Roy Mayne together with Herbert Richard Welham owned and operated Cremorne Press, Richmond.

The two were at the time famous for their printing of the controversial Unemployed Workers Movement pamphlets titled “Under Forced Labour”.
It was believed they were for the rebellion and were charged with having on June 20 1932 printed for publication or distribution 25 copies of the pamphlets and failed to print on each copy in legible character their names and addresses.

In 1946 Roy Mayne and Herbert Welham ceased trading under Cremorne Press. It’s believe that in this same year, Roy Mayne started printing in his garage at his home in Carlisle Street, Preston.

With great success in his established printing business, Roy Mayne moved the business from his garage to 110 High Street, Preston where there was room for more staff and machinery.

When Roy Mayne’s son Jonathan Edmonds Mayne completed his 4 year compositor apprenticeship Roy Mayne introduced Jonathan into the business as a Co-Director, thus creating the complete name we have today – Roy E. Mayne & Son Pty. Ltd.

At the same premises in 1970 current partner Robert Barker was employed as a printing apprentice. Robert completed his 4 year apprenticeship and went on to be a printer
at Roy E. Mayne & Son Pty Ltd.

The father-son company were doing extremely well in the printing industry and naturally, they expanded. The company needed administration / office aid and in September 1983 hired an office manager, Maria Nardo.

Maria made a great impact on the company with her drive in efficiency and success.
Over the years Maria learnt the technicality and business of the industry and became passionate about print.

On 13th October 1986 Roy Edmonds Mayne passed away at 82 years of age. The company was left to his son Jonathan.

In 1989 Jonathan Mayne sold the business to the current Managing Director, Maria Nardo.
Employing Robert Barker as her business partner, together they have built a company that today has a reputation for the highest standard in quality and efficiency.

PDF Compliance
We recommend downloading Adobe Settings below and applying the preset when exporting.
PDF Presets for Print & Large Format (.zip file)
Otherwise the below settings should be used in your PDF files.

• Double sided artwork to be supplied in a 2 page PDF
• Supply a multiple page PDF with 1up artwork on each page
• Colour mode must be CMYK not RGB
• Under “Output” the “Destination” should be set to “CoatedFOGRA39”.
The ICC Profile can be Downloaded Here. (.zip file)
(Alternatively Adobe Suite users can use the colour setting “Europe General Purpose 3”)
• Include crop marks and 3mm minimum bleed
• Ensure artwork is centred in document and we recommend that text and non-bleed images be kept 3mm from trims
• Fold panels to be set to specifications
Booklet creep will occur – text and images should be at least 10mm from trim edge

Font Usage
All fonts must be embedded. You can also outline fonts before creating a PDF to avoid issues.

Graphic / Image Elements Checklist
• Supply bitmap images at 300dpi
• All colours must be converted to CMYK (no RGB, LAB or PMS colours) with the exception of Silver (877)
• Combined colour ink density should not exceed 340%

used to check the integrity of the PDF prior to sending it.

We take the following actions to make sure we’re environmentally friendly:

  • Using vegetable-based inks instead of petroleum-based inks
  • Reducing chemical use including isopropyl alcohol in our offset presses
  • Switching to Computer to Plate technology to eliminate Ultra Developer and Finisher chemicals
  • Encouraging customers to choose recycled paper
  • Reducing our waste across the business
  • All digital cartridges & consumables are recycled by Fuji Xerox
  • Paper Recycling
  • Using Eco-Solvent Inks instead of True-Solvent Inks for our large-format printers

On top of those actions we take, we only source printing papers that have the following accreditations:

  • ECF Chlorine Free
ECF indicates a paper that is made without the use of Elemental Chlorine.
ECF pulp is produced with chlorine compounds, a bleaching alternative that serves to reduce harmful by-products.
  • FSC – Forest Stewardship Council
Pulp sourced from forests that have been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
FSC works to promote responsible forestry, conserve biological diversity and protect old growth forests.
FSC also includes a ‘Chain Of Custody’ system that tracks paper from the forest, all the way to finished material offering clients complete paper traceability.
  • ISO 14001
Paper is manufactured by a mill that is accredited with ISO 14001 EMS, the international standard for organising and achieving continual improvement in environmental management systems.
This standard reviews the total manufacturing process and seeks continual improvement in aspects such as energy efficiency, waste reduction and pollution control.
  • PEFC – Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification
PEFC is a framework for auditing forestry operations and promoting sustainable forest management by actively reducing the effects on the environment.
  • Carbon Neutral
    A product and/or operation that have had their carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions;
    1) Calculated
    2) Reduced where possible and
    3) ‘Offset’ through credits that fund renewable, emission free energy products. The Kyoto Protocol mandates that these offsets must be “real, verifiable and additional to what would have otherwise occurred”.

Knowing that we take the necessary steps in being an environmentally-friendly company, we can ensure that when you print with us you’re not harming our environment.
